About the Project

Aim and Scope of the Project

Supported under the 2025/1 call of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Programme, the project “TÜBİTAK 1001: Developing a Mediation-Based Sustainable Solution Model for University Campuses” aims to address the nature, causes and dynamics of disputes arising on university campuses through a holistic approach. As social spaces where students, academic staff and administrative bodies form multi-layered relationships and where differing expectations and needs intersect, universities naturally carry a potential for conflict. The project considers these conflicts not merely as individual disagreements but as structural processes that directly affect institutional functioning and the academic climate.

Within this framework, the project analyses the parties, types and dynamics of disputes arising in campus settings using scientific methods, and systematically evaluates the functioning and effectiveness of the resolution mechanisms already in place at universities. Based on the findings, it aims to develop a mediation-based, participatory and sustainable institutional solution model. Going beyond a purely theoretical assessment, the project seeks to design a model that can be implemented at universities and to draw up concrete roadmaps for it.

Positioning mediation as a sustainable, inclusive and structural means of resolution.

Ultimately, the project seeks to contribute to rethinking conflict management on university campuses at the institutional level, and to position mediation as a sustainable, inclusive and structural means of resolution. In this respect, the study aims to develop a scientifically grounded model for strengthening a culture of dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful communication at universities.
